In one of the first scenes of Out of Africa, Meryl Streep, playing the future baroness, travels across the vast expanses of Africa. Upon arriving in Nairobi, she marries Bror, Baron von Blixen, wearing an ivory gown and a "hat designed to be dazzling."
Soon after, they left for their new farm in the Ngong Hills. Over the next few weeks and months, the Baroness unpacked her belongings from Denmark: crystal and Limoges, a cuckoo clock, a chintz-draped sofa and chairs, mahogany tables, hand-knotted rugs, silverware, and lace.
She blends all of this with Kikuyu textiles, large animal skins and trophies, creating a distinctive colonial style from a particular era in history.
Carefully handcrafted from natural rattan, this basket offers a touch of classic elegance reminiscent of Baroness von Blixen's farmhouse in the Ngong Hills.
